Ken Pyle, Director of Marketing, Broadband Forum
“The huge potential for monetization and partnership opportunities that the managed smart home offers broadband service providers cannot be underestimated” said Mauro Tilocca in San Diego last Fall, as the broadband industry gathered to share advice, guidance and knowledge to shape the direction of connected technologies in the home.
The comments wrapped up our Town Hall Innovation Series after expert speakers told attendees the latest trends, collaboration opportunities and customer needs during insightful sessions. The discussions highlighted the significant influence of Broadband Forum’s members and our work area projects in shaping the industry’s approach in addressing customer experiences in the smart home.
At our upcoming Spring Member Meeting in Hong Kong from 11-14 March, the sessions will return to advise, guide and foster conversation to help the BBF direct its work towards the key features and strategies needed to provide reliable, high‑quality services. This will help to define the wider experience of broadband is delivered for years to come – end to end quality of experience. It is of importance to operators, service providers and vendors.
The exponential demand for seamless experiences
In the next few years, the demand for seamless, high‑performance digital experiences will increase exponentially. Applications in the smart home, including virtual and augmented reality, video conferencing and a range of IoT devices will require not only high-bandwidth but also low-latency.
In Hong Kong, our Town Hall Innovation Series will explore the critical role of service-oriented architectures in the evolving landscape of broadband networks. Speakers will have the chance to discuss what they see as the future residential and business end-to‑end service requirements and how the operator and service provider can guarantee the appropriate Quality of Experience (QoE).
These discussions will provide insights and guidance on how future broadband networks should be designed to be aware of and meet QoE requirements tailored to specific user applications. The presentations from key industry leaders will go beyond traditional broadband service components such as data, video and voice across diverse sectors, including entertainment, healthcare, smart cities, business and more.
This will align with the rise of QoE requirements, including, the managed home experience, service differentiation, latency and routing mechanisms, network slicing, AI-driven network management, edge computing, and fixed network coordination with 5G in enhancing the user experience.
Don’t miss your chance to be involved
Service-led architectures are not just BBF’s strategic direction embodied in the recently formed Work Area, they are poised to redefine broadband network performance, enabling more personalized, efficient, and user-centric services in the coming decade.
