CEO’s note
It was a real pleasure to spend time catching up with our members at the Spring Member Meeting in Hong Kong. Together, we tackled some of the key challenges shaping our industry, particularly the ongoing pursuit of an enhanced end-user experience, and we continued to build momentum in our Open Broadband projects.
The flexibility, innovation, and speed enabled by open software, combined with the discipline, efficiency, and global reach of open standards remains critical. The synergy between open source and standards will ensure the cost-effective and efficient delivery of next-generation broadband technologies and services.
As we prepare for our upcoming Summer Member Meeting, on June 23rd-26th, Open Broadband remains a central focus for the Broadband Forum. I hope to see many of you there as we push this crucial work forward. Your insights and participation are fundamental to this success.
And don’t forget – the BASe Technical Summit follows right after, from June 26th-27th. Make sure it’s in your calendar!

Technology Spotlight
Open Broadband Subscriber Session Steering (OB-STEER) is developing a reference implementation, which is an example of how a Broadband Forum specification can be implemented for key components of the Subscriber Session Steering architecture, based on Broadband Forum’s WT-474. The goal: to enable flexible, on-demand connectivity and streamline network management.
The project builds on code originally developed for last year’s Broadband Forum Innovation Demonstrations at Network X, and it continues to evolve as a collaborative open source effort.
Interoperability is critical, as Subscriber Session Steering will be deployed across a wide range of vendor equipment. OB-STEER is working to define compatible implementation options that ensure seamless integration across the ecosystem.
At the Spring 2025 Meeting, the OB-STEER team extended an open invitation to interested parties to join the initiative and contribute to advancing the code base. If you’d like to get involved, please contact Hagen Woesner.
