CEO’s note
As we approach our Summer Member Meeting and the BASe Technical Summit 2025 in Munich, I want to highlight the core principles that continue to drive the Broadband Forum’s work: collaboration, education and interoperability are the foundation for improving users’ Quality of Experience (QoE).
That’s why initiatives like our BASe workshops and live demonstrations are so important. And you can get involved in these collaborative Broadband Forum activities at next month’s Fiber Connect and ANGA COM.
Our upcoming BASe Technical Summit will also bring this collaborative spirit to life, so be sure to register your attendance and dive into the latest discussions on the future of broadband technology innovation and current industry challenges. Together, we are shaping a broadband future that works better for everyone!
Broadband Forum CEO Craig Thomas

- Broadband Forum CEO Craig Thomas spoke with ISE Magazine Editor Joe Gillard, to discuss the recent realignment of our work areas, the unique strengths of telecom providers, the big opportunity facing application providers to work with broadband service providers, and what the telecoms industry will look like in five years. You can read the full article here.
- The latest Broadband Forum ‘Plugfest’, held in conjunction with LANPARK and AT&T Labs marked the first time that 50G-PON – or Higher speed (HS-PON) – were tested at the interoperability event series, and the second time for 25GS-PON. You can read the full press release featured in Telecoms Tech News here.
- The interoperability of PON equipment – from terminals to optical network units (ONUs) – has been one of the most significant influences in the success story of FTTH networks and the possibilities of gigabit (and even multi-gigabit) broadband. You can read the full SCTE Broadband Journal article as Broadband Forum CEO Craig Thomas discusses the importance of industry collaboration in the future of PON here.
- ‘Broadband networks that deliver the applications and services that subscribers want will empower broadband service providers (BSPs) to differentiate, add value, and monetize. But first, it is important that we have a service-level understanding of QoE demand to enable us to apply more intelligence within the network,’ was the key message from Craig Thomas in a recent blog.
- In a Broadband Forum blog, our Director of Membership Rhonda Heier shared the key insights from the Spring 2025 Members Meeting in Hong Kong and the importance of industry collaboration to continue to drive innovation and the shift towards services-led broadband.
